Selectivity

A reference in pharmacology to the affinity of an agonist or antagonist for specific types (alpha1, alpha2, beta) of adrenoceptor sites. The higher the specificity the more consistent the neuromodulation.

Septum

Wall dividing the chambers of the heart.

Stenosis

Constriction of a passage. The term is often used if a valve opening is narrowed (mitral valve stenosis, for example) or a blood vessel is constricted.

Stent

Small supporting frame positioned inside the artery in order to reduce the chance of the artery becoming constricted again.

Stroke

A cardiovascular disorder where a blood vessel taking oxygen and nutrients to the brain bursts or is blocked by a blood clot or other particles. If deprived of oxygen, nerve cells in the brain cannot function and they die, thus stopping the function of parts of the body they control.
